The story of Jonah ends with Jonah's anger at God because God shows mercy to Jonah's enemies. Jonah is unchanged by the events of the story. He wants his enemies to be God's enemies. How is this a mirror for us? Where do our prejudices and our us/them attitudes harden our hearts to God? The book ends with Jonah unchanged by God's invitation to be changed by the wideness of God's mercy. It invites us to sit with Jonah and ask whether we will be unchanged as well.
