How to Join

At Carlisle UMC we are not so much interested in church membership as we are in your personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

  • We believe that Christians are made, not born. There we take it as our responsibility to take the initiative in making Christians and initiating new people into our congregation. We want to prevent you from associating the term "membership" with paying dues, meaningless rituals, silly rules and having your name on some dusty roll. We want you to find a place where you can experience God, express yourself, and exercise your God-given gifts.

At CUMC we are not so much interested in church membership as we are in your personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The Church is the God-ordained means through which this is normally carried. Church membership does carry a special importance:

  • Biblically: Christ was and is committed to the Church (Ephesians 5:25)
  • Culturally: The Church is the only true superpower on earth. It is the antidote to our society.
  • Practically: It defines who can be counted on.
  • Personally: It is evidence of faith and commitment. It produces spiritual growth.
