Project SHARE

Project SHARE began in 1984, with a group of clergy and lay people meeting at the former Allison UMC. At that time, S.H.A.R.E. meant survival, help, and recipient education. Those letters later changed to the word SHARE, to communicate more of how the program actually operates, sharing what we have, with those who are in need. The Vision Statement reads, "Nourishing Our Community...Awakening Hope."
Today, Project SHARE provides food each month to over 3,000 in our local community, CUMC partners with Project SHARE in three ways.

WORK TEAM

Many people at CUMC volunteer directly with Project SHARE each week. Some bag food, help with distribution weeks, cook with kids, interview clients and more. To volunteer one-time or regularly visit projectsharepa.org.

regular donations

Many people at CUMC give above their regular offering with special gifts to support the continual work of feeding our neighbors. This can be done through the Serve envelopes in our Worship Center or at Info Central; or through our online giving portal.

thanksgiving bags

Each November, CUMC participates in the community's effort to make sure each family has a Thanksgiving meal. In October, a list of items needed for the meal is provided and then in November all the items, or financial sponsorship of dinners, are collected. Coupons for free turkeys from local grocery stores are also accepted.

my experience...

After volunteering for the first time at Project SHARE, we found that it has become a well oiled "people" machine who are able to become an amazing assembly line. They quickly and expertly put together nourishing bags of food and get them into cars for those in need, rain or shine. Each time they open, the food sources are varied, and healthy products of all kinds are donated by local food operations. The day we were there, volunteers were encouraged to sing and dance and just be happy while helping. The atmosphere is friendly and encouraging which makes the time pass quickly, as bag after bag is filled. The folks on the receiving end are thankful, and those helping are wishing them well. It's the kind of community spirit we all hope and pray for. If you're interested in this kind of connection, sign up and give it a try. ~ Robyn Krohn
